Playbooks and how message drafts are written
Understand the campaign playbook, edit it with AI help and see how it shapes the messages your leads receive.
What a playbook is
A playbook tells the AI how to write for one campaign: who you are, who you are talking to, what you offer, how you sound and how each message should be built. Every message draft in the campaign is written from it, together with what the AI knows about the lead and your knowledge base.
The sections of a campaign playbook
Open a campaign and click Playbook (you land on the Playbook Optimizer). The playbook has these sections:
- Objective
- Target Audience
- Value Proposition
- Framework
- Personalization
- About You
- Your Voice
- First Message
- First Followup
- Second Followup
- Response
Each section shows a score and a short reason for that score. A section over 3000 characters shows a character counter in red. The header shows the playbook name and a version badge such as v3. Saving creates a new version, and the version that is Active is the one the campaign uses.
Improve your playbook with AI
- Open the Playbook for your campaign.
- In the Improve your Playbook card, either write what you want changed in "Tell your AI Agent what to change..." and click Plan Specific Improvements, or leave it empty and click Plan Overall Improvements.
- The AI lists the improvements it suggests. Tick the ones you want and click Apply N Improvements. Click Reset to start over.
- Click Show Comparison to see BEFORE and AFTER for each section.
- Click Save Changes.
Edit by hand
Turn on Advanced Mode to edit sections yourself. Atomic BI warns you that in this mode rules validation and scoring may be inaccurate, and AI suggestions are unavailable. Turn it off with Switch to Normal to bring suggestions back.
How first-message drafts are written
When a lead is ready, the AI writes three different first-message options for you to choose from. Each option has a subject and a body and a score. The campaign uses your playbook, the lead's profile and recent posts (from the last 180 days) and your knowledge base. Drafting happens automatically if Auto Draft is on for the LinkedIn account, or you can trigger it from the board with Generate first message.
Follow-ups and replies work the same way: the AI drafts one message at a time from your playbook's follow-up and response sections and the conversation so far. See Lead stages, replies and follow-ups.
Draft with your own note
Whenever you want to steer a draft, use Draft with a note next to the message box. Tell the AI what the message should cover, for example "Thursday 3pm works, ask for their email". Your playbook still sets the voice and tone. Click Draft.
The other kind of playbook
Under Agents, then Playbooks, you can also create written playbooks with a title, objective and instructions. These are chosen for a usage such as chat conversations or LinkedIn outreach and are attached to agents. Campaigns use the sectioned playbook above by default.
